The Mike Cook Northeast Challenge Series Races 3 & 4

The second stop on the Mike Cook Northeast Challenge Series rolled into Berwick, Pennsylvania on June 28 and 29th. One of the intents of spreading the series throughout the Northeast was to encourage drivers to travel out of their regions and support racing within the division. This mission was accomplished as CSR was the largest class of the weekend and SSOA drivers made this happen. The conditions were very different from the rough waters of Standish, Maine as the competitors now raced on the swift moving Susquehanna river. The river was so swift in fact that there was difficulty in holding the buoys in place and the Race Committee went to one buoy turns which made for varying lines of entry into the turns.

Saturday’s race saw Wild Bill Forster and Steve Noury pick up where they left off in Standish, Maine, each winning a heat and picking up bonus points. Forster took the win on time while Tim Noury had to settle with the third despite his two second place finishes. Heat one of Sunday’s event saw the drivers get a little antsy on the start and all but Steve Noury jumped the gun. With 400 points in his pocket Noury only had to stay legal in heat two to pick up the overall win. Forster won heat two and Tim Noury finish behind Steve Noury for third in the heat and an overall podium finish. Rounding out the field were New Jersey’s Johnny Wlodarski making his CSR debut and St. Augustine, Florida’s Bill Walker. Next up on the series will be Thompson, Connecticut on July 12 and 13.
