BUBBA burger, America’s favorite burger, will once again team up with the South Shore Outboard Association and the American Power Boat Association as the title sponsor for the 2017 BUBBA burger New England Junior Hydroplane Championship Series. The BUBBA burger Series is an eleven race New England race series for youth and novice hydroplane racers. Each event consists of separate races for two classes of boats both using the hydroplane boat hull design and a single fifteen horsepower outboard engine. The “Junior Class” is for drivers between the ages of nine and sixteen years old and utilizes a carburetor restrictor plate to reduce the engine horsepower to approximately ten horsepower giving these boats a top speed of 40 MPH. The “AX Class” has a minimum age of twelve years old with no upper age limit. The primary difference between the Junior Class and the AX is the removal of the restrictor plate in AX, giving these boats a top speed in excess of 55 MPH.

” BUBBA burger is proud to be the title sponsor again this year of the New England Junior Hydroplane Series,” said Andy Stenson, VP of Marketing of BUBBA Foods. “This series is a great outdoor, family fun event that is exciting to watch and exciting to participate in.”

Recapping the 2016 Championship Series JH class, with Team BUBBA burger reining 2015 Junior Class BUBBA burger Series Champion Lily Deware no longer eligible for the class, there was great anticipation at the start of the season over who would take the 2016 title. Pre-season favorites, 2015 runner-up David Woodle of Groton MA, and 2015 3rd place series finisher Eli Campbell of Chester NH did not disappoint as they finished the season deadlocked in points. Woodle would take the Championship in a tie breaker on the strength of his race wins in Standish Me and Milton NH. The battle for the last podium position also went down to the wire between cousins, BUBBA Series Rookie Driver Jack Lyons of Keene NH and Team BUBBA burger driver Eden Deware of Easton, MA. Lyons win in race two at Standish, ME was the difference as the rookie driver Lyons edged out Deware for 3rd place in the BUBBA burger Junior Class Championship.

In the AXH Class, it was another shootout between 2015 BUBBA burger Series Champion Lily Deware and David Woodle. Last year, the duel between Deware and Woodle went all the way to the final race weekend with Deware taking her second consecutive BUBBA Series Championship. This time Woodle was looking to turn the table on Deware and came out fast and never looked back en route to his first BUBBA Series AX Class Championship. Wins at Standish, Milton and at the Northeast Divisional Championship race in Taunton MA clinched the title. Deware closed out a strong season in 2nd place with Eli Campbell earning the final podium position in 3rd.

The 2017 New England Series schedule will include; Standish, ME (May 20, 21), Milton, NH (June 10, 11), Thompson, CT (July 8, 9), Standish, ME (Sept 9, 10) and Kingston, NH (Sept 23, 24).
