A race day event would start around 8 AM with equipment setup, course layout, boat technical and safety inspection followed by a drivers meeting. Racing would start based on host site requirements or regulations and must be completed one hour prior to official sunset.

A typical event would consist of several boat classes running two “heats”, or individual races of three to four laps each. The boats in each heat would receive points based on their finishing order. The driver in each class with the most points is the winner and so on down to last place.

SSOA traditionally runs between 9 – 11 classes per day (Saturday and Sunday), with a total on water duration of approximately 4hours (example – Noon – 4 PM). Saturday morning testing (10 AM till 11:30 AM), Friday testing or Friday Drivers Schools are sometimes added if the host race site is available and local regulations allow.

With American Power Boat Association certified referees, race directors, scorers and inspectors the SSOA staff is dedicated to running quality events, insuring a level playing field of class boats and motors, and with all drivers points sent to national headquarters for tabulation toward national championship awards.
